Special Advisor for International Disability Rights Judy Heumann to Host Screening Of "Lives Worth Living"

In recognition of the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities and Human Rights Day, Special Advisor for International Disability Rights Judy Heumann will host a screening and panel discussion of “Lives Worth Living,” a historical documentary about the disability rights movement. The panel will include a conversation with the film’s producers and activists featured in the film, including Special Advisor Heumann.

For more information on the film, please visit: In partnership with the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues and in recognition of the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence,” (November 25-December 10) the panel will also include a specific focus on the problem of violence against disabled women and girls.

The annual observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3 was established by the International Year for Disabled Persons (1981). The Day aims to promote the rights of persons with disabilities and the inclusion of persons with disabilities in every aspect of the political, social, economic and cultural life of their communities.

Media representatives may attend the screening and panel discussion upon presentation of one of the following: (1) A U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver’s license, passport.)
