U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (ROK), and U.S. Commissioner of Section to Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea, Sung Kim, represented the United States in signing the Participation Contract at the U.S. Ambassador’s Official Residence in Seoul on Monday, December 12, 2011. Expo Commissioner Lee Joon-hee and Expo Organizing Committee Chairman Kang Dong-suk represented the Organizing Committee for Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea at the signing. USA Pavilion 2012 LLC’s Chief Spokesperson Philippe Cousteau and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Snowhite attended the ceremony and witnessed the signing.

Ambassador Kim stated that he was pleased to be named the U.S. Commissioner of Section to Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea, and that participation in the Expo demonstrates U.S. commitment to strengthening U.S. – Republic of Korea relations. He also thanked all the corporate donors whose generous donations help make U.S. participation possible. Mr. Cousteau noted that the Pavilion experience will provide the opportunity to engage millions of visitors from Korea and around the world in understanding the vital connection between the health and well-being of cultures and communities and the future of our ocean habitats and resources.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton named Ambassador Kim as U.S. Commissioner of Section of the United States Exhibition at Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea on November 14, 2011. Ambassador Kim is responsible for oversight of the USA Pavilion and will serve as the official U.S. Government representative on issues relating to the Expo.

The Expo will be held in the southern coastal city of Yeosu from May 12 to August 12, 2012. Joining more than 109 countries and international organizations, the USA Pavilion will reflect the Expo’s theme of “The Living Ocean and Coast,” and will house a 12,000-square foot exhibit featuring the United States’ unique shoreline through displays and programming that highlight the diverse nature of America’s ocean environments and coastal communities. USA Pavilion 2012 LLC is a public-private partnership and funded exclusively through private donations. Corporate sponsors include: Chevron; Citi; Boeing; Corning Incorporated; Hyundai Motor America; Kia Motors America; Lockheed Martin; Samsung Electronics America, Inc.; GE; and Becton Dickinson.
