Question: Do Syrian Americans who visit Syria face the same problems as Iranian Americans who visit Iran, and do we warn people?
Answer: Our concern about U.S. citizens in Syria is less a question of whether they have dual nationality, but rather that we have consistently faced difficulties getting timely access to all U.S. citizens detained in Syria. The Syrian Government has repeatedly failed to grant U.S. consular officials timely access to U.S. citizens being detained in Syria.
According to our most recent Travel Warning dated January 11, all U.S. citizens should avoid all travel to Syria and we urge U.S. citizens currently in Syria to depart immediately while commercial transportation is available.
