Special Representative for Global Intergovernmental Affairs Reta Jo Lewis is traveling throughout Brazil, January 21-February 1, to promote subnational engagement. She is visiting the cities of Brasilia, Recife, Natal, Fortaleza, Salvador, and Sao Paulo.
Special Representative Lewis is scheduled to meet with subnational officials and leaders in the business and academic communities to support collaboration between subnational officials in Brazil and the United States in furtherance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the United States and Brazil. The agreement is designed to foster enhanced cooperation and exchange of best practices in advance of Brazil’s hosting a series of major international sporting events, including the 2014 FIFA Soccer World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympics.
