The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, announced today the musical artists who will review and help nominate candidates for the 2012-2013 Fulbright-mtvU Fellowships. This year’s artists include Foster the People, J. Cole, B.o.B. and Diplo.
ECA sponsors the Fulbright-mtvU Fellowships to promote the power of music as a global force for promoting mutual understanding. Applications for the 2012-2013 fellowships will be accepted through March 1, 2012. Winners are chosen through a multi-tiered, merit-based selection process including merit reviews by U.S. and foreign academic leaders and area experts. The final selection will be made by the presidentially appointed J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. A video marking the fifth anniversary of the fellowship demonstrates its impact around the world. More information is available at http://www.us.fulbrightonline.org and http://www.fulbright.mtvU.com.
Winners of the 2011-2012 Fulbright-mtvU Fellowships are currently conducting research in United Kingdom (Northern Ireland), Mongolia, Argentina and South Africa for one academic year on projects of their own design focused on an aspect of international musical culture. The four 2011 winners include Kyle Inman, a graduate of DePauw University; Lauren Knapp, a graduate of Grinnell College; Jennifer Saura, a graduate of Harvard University; and Meja Soba, a graduate student at UCLA. Each has been sharing her or his experiences with peers via video reports, blogs and podcasts on mtvU and http://www.fulbright.mtvU.com.
The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program and is supported by the people of the United States and partner countries around the world.
