Special Representative for Global Intergovernmental Affairs Reta Jo Lewis is traveling throughout Brazil March 25-April 3 to promote subnational engagement. She will visit the cities of Manaus, Sao Paulo, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, and Rio de Janeiro.
Special Representative Lewis is scheduled to meet with subnational officials and leaders in the business, Afro-Brazilian, and academic communities to support collaboration between subnational officials in Brazil and the United States. Her trip is in furtherance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the United States and Brazil to foster enhanced cooperation and exchange of best practices in advance of Brazil’s hosting a series of major international sporting events, including the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics. In addition, Special Representative Lewis is scheduled to deliver remarks to students at the Fundacao Getulio Vargas in Sao Paulo on March 27.
