On Monday, April 23rd, the United States and the Government of Iraq will hold the inaugural meeting of the Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) on Energy at the Department of Energy. Following the meeting, a press availability to discuss outcomes and accomplishments of this critical sector JCC will be hosted at the Department of State where the principal participants will provide brief statements and take questions.
The Joint Coordinating Committee on Energy will be co-chaired by Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Dr. Hussein Al Shahristani; U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman; and Department of State’ s Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs Ambassador Carlos Pascual.
The JCC on Energy is one of the eight areas of cooperation outlined in the Strategic Framework Agreement, which now guides the relationship between the United States and Iraq in a new era of cooperation and coordination. This JCC will focus on enhancing collaboration on a variety of topics including strengthening Iraq’s oil and natural gas production and export, building on Iraq’s efforts to stabilize its electrical sector, and managing the protection of the critical components of its energy infrastructure.

Venue: Department of State, Main Briefing Room.
Entrance: For those without a Department of State Press Pass, please arrive with a Press ID no later than 3:00 p.m. at the Department of State’s 23rd Street for security check and escort to the Briefing Room. Last escort will depart 23rd St entrance at 3:20 p.m.
