Contract Awarded for the Sao Paulo, Brazil Consular Expansion Project

The Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) announces the $5.1 million award of the Sao Paulo Consular Expansion project to International Construction Services, LLC of Memphis, Tennessee.

The project includes the addition of interview windows, reconfiguration/densification and expansion of office space to accommodate two shifts of interviews for non-immigrant visa applicants, and a larger consular staff. The project, scheduled for completion in December 2012, will substantially increase daily processing of non-immigrant visa applicants and will augment the number of Brazilian tourists able to visit the United States.

Since 1999, as part of the Department’s Capital Security Construction Program, OBO has completed 89 new diplomatic facilities and has moved more than 27,000 people into safe, secure, and functional facilities. OBO has an additional 43 projects in design or construction.
