On June 8 in the George C. Marshall Center, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Assistant Secretary Michael H. Posner will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.

"DRL at 35: Human Rights in Focus" will feature conversations with current and former U.S. Government officials on the evolution of both U.S. Government human rights policy and DRL since the bureau's inception. The event is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Panel participants include: Ambassador Tom Pickering, Under Secretary for Political Affairs, 1997-2000; Elliott Abrams, DRL Assistant Secretary, 1981-1985; Dr. Tamara Wittes, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs, 2009-2012; Lorne Craner, DRL Assistant Secretary 2001-2004; Members of Congress (invited), and other experts.

The event starts at 8:30 a.m. and will be open to the press.

Pre-set time for cameras: 7:15 a.m. from the 21st Street Entrance Lobby.
Final access time for journalists and still photographers: 8:00 a.m. from the 21st Street Entrance Lobby.

Media representatives may attend this event upon presentation of one of the following: (1) A U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport).
