Coordinator for International Information Programs Dawn L. McCall is speaking at the 200th Fort Ross Bicentennial Conference in Sonoma, California today. Entitled Fort Ross, U.S.-Russian Relations and the Bilateral Presidential Commission, the one-day conference will highlight past, current and future trends of cultural, trade and energy cooperation between Russia and the United States. The conference also will focus on strengthening institutions, including the U.S.-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission.

As co-chair of the Bilateral Presidential Commission media working group, Coordinator McCall will participate in a panel on culture and exchanges. Her remarks will emphasize the importance of U.S.-Russian people-to-people exchange programs which use education, culture, sports, and media to address global challenges.

Organized by the Fort Ross Conservancy, the conference complements a weekend of cultural events celebrating U.S.-Russian ties and cooperation. Chevron, Transneft and Sovocomflot are co-sponsors of the event. Fort Ross, north of San Francisco Bay, was the southernmost Russian settlement in North America. The site symbolizes Russian contributions to American culture and development, as well as the historical ties between our two nations.
