Dr. Tomicah Tillemann, Senior Advisor to Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton for Civil Society and Emerging Democracies, will visit Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinea, and China November 7-18.
In Bali, Indonesia, Dr. Tillemann will participate in the Bali Democracy Forum, Asia's leading regional meeting on democracy issues. Dr. Tillemann will hold talks with senior officials from around the region and work to build cooperation between the Bali Democracy Forum and the Community of Democracies.
In Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste, Dr. Tillemann will work with a broad range of leaders to explore frameworks for cooperation between government and civil society. Dr. Tillemann will highlight how collaboration across government, civil society, and the private sector can help sustain social, political, and economic progress as societies undergo rapid change.
In China, Dr. Tillemann will join with the country's former deputy foreign minister and other leaders to deliver a series of speeches at the International Symposium on Nonprofit Organization and U.S Foreign Relations. This symposium is focused on the role of civil society organizations in policymaking, and provides an important platform for exploring how work with non-governmental actors can improve policy outcomes.
