Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Michael Posner will visit Haiti from January 14 through January 16, 2013. Assistant Secretary Posner will meet with the Minister Delegate for Human Rights and the Fight against Extreme Poverty, the Ombudswoman of the Office of Citizen Protection, the Secretary of State for Disabilities, and the Director General of the Haitian National Police. While in country, he will also meet with representatives of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
Assistant Secretary Posner also plans to meet with leaders from various civil society groups. Secretary Clinton has made engagement with civil society groups a pillar of U.S. foreign policy because societies move forward when citizens are empowered to transform common interests into common actions that serve the common good.
