On February 21, Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Michael H. Posner met with civil society groups, international organizations, former political prisoners, and corporate representatives in Rangoon. On February 22, Assistant Secretary Posner met with Aung San Suu Kyi, Presidential Advisor U Soe Thane, Attorney General Dr. Tun Shin, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Lt. General Kyaw Zaw Myint, and other high-level government officials in Naypyitaw. Topics for discussion included the government’s recently announced political prisoner review process, religious freedom for ethnic minorities, the human rights situation in current and former conflict areas, responsible investment practices, and other areas of follow up to the October Human Rights Dialogue and President Obama’s visit in November.
