Dr. Tomicah Tillemann, Senior Adviser to the Secretary of State for Civil Society and Emerging Democracies, will travel to San Salvador, El Salvador June 27-28, 2013. Dr. Tillemann will represent the United States at the Ninth Meeting of the Governing Council of the Community of Democracies.
The Governing Council is the body of 24 countries that sets the policy and strategic vision of the Community of Democracies (CD). This will be the first Governing Council meeting to take place under the two-year presidency of El Salvador. It will address topics including the CD’s support for ongoing transitions to democracy, efforts to strengthen and defend civil society worldwide, and institutional issues related to the CD’s working groups and task forces. Dr. Tillemann will also meet with government officials and civil society leaders.
