Ambassador William R. Brownfield, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), will travel to New Orleans, Louisiana on December 3 to participate in the National Association of Attorneys General 2013 Fall Meeting.
While in New Orleans, Assistant Secretary Brownfield will sign a partnership agreement with Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin. Under this partnership, the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office will assist INL’s mission of advancing the development of rule-of-law institutions with partner countries around the world. Rhode Island is a trusted partner in these endeavors; since 2012, Rhode Island’s Department of Corrections has provided advanced prison-management training to corrections counterparts in the Bahamas and the Eastern Caribbean.
INL has partnerships with more than 70 state, county, and local entities around the United States. Partners receive specialized training from the Department of State and develop key international relationships to fight crime in their own communities. These partnerships enable INL to utilize the knowledge and expertise of actively serving law enforcement, justice, and corrections officials to train, advise, and mentor foreign officials on behalf of the United States.
