Secretary of State John Kerry will host the annual “Diplomacy at Home for the Holidays” reception at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, in the Diplomatic Reception Rooms at the Department of State.
The reception honors the service, dedication, and sacrifice of families of Department of State employees serving abroad on unaccompanied tours. These families often endure long periods of separation from their loved ones, including during the holidays.
This year’s program will include remarks by Secretary Kerry and a performance by Peter Yarrow of the band “Peter, Paul and Mary.” Washington Wizards players John Wall and Bradley Beal will also attend.
During the event, family members of those serving on diplomatic missions at unaccompanied posts will prepare care packages that include cards, gifts, confections, and other donated items for those serving abroad. Family members will also have the opportunity to take holiday photos with Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer that will be sent to their loved ones posted overseas.
This event is made possible through public-private partnerships.
