Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Roberta Jacobson and the Secretary’s Special Representative for Global Partnerships Andrew O’Brien will travel to Miami, Florida, December 12-13 to attend the La Idea Business Pitch Competition’s BoomCamp and Final Showcase where 16 Latin American entrepreneurs and U.S. partners will participate in a mentor-driven training program and present their concepts and business pitches.
On Thursday, December 12, Assistant Secretary Jacobson and Special Representative O’Brien will attend the afternoon session of BoomCamp, a multi-day entrepreneurial boot camp coordinated by the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and held at Venture Hive, a Miami-based tech accelerator, where they will meet with the La Idea competition finalists.
On Friday, December 13, Assistant Secretary Jacobson and Special Representative O’Brien will participate in the La Idea Final Business Showcase event at Venture Hive, hear final pitches from contestants, and participate in the presentation of awards.
La Idea, a U.S. Department of State and USAID initiative which was launched by the International diaspora Engagement Alliance (IdEA) connects entrepreneurs within the Latin American Diaspora in the United States with entrepreneurs from throughout the region, as well as to resources that will help them cultivate and grow their innovative businesses. Finalist partnerships hail from across Latin America including Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, and Peru.
