We congratulate Dr. Michelle Bachelet on her election as the next President of Chile, based on the preliminary results issued by Chile’s electoral authorities. The Chilean people have once again demonstrated their commitment to democratic values. Since its successful transition from a military government, Chile has emerged as a model of democratic governance.

The United States and Chile share a robust relationship based on our commitment to those democratic ideals, human rights and economic opportunity.

We value the warm collaboration we have enjoyed during President Pinera’s administration and we look forward to working with President-elect Michelle Bachelet when the new administration takes office in March.
