J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board Explores "The Fulbright Effect" and the Future of Public Diplomacy and Global Education

The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, in partnership with The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, will host a public discussion, "The Fulbright Effect: How do we shape the future of public diplomacy and global education?", on Thursday, May 8, 2014, from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm EDT.

An international online audience will engage with four prominent experts to explore new ideas and developments in the field of international education and research. This global outreach event will be live streamed at www.watchitoo.com/show/wav-772 and will take place at the Wilson Center, Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, One Woodrow Wilson Plaza, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20004 (6th Floor Moynihan Board Room).

J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board Chair Tom Healy will introduce the event and Vice Chair Betty Castor will moderate the discussion.

The panelists are:

  • Brett Bruen, Director of Global Engagement, National Security Council
  • Daniel Edelson, Vice President for Education, National Geographic
  • Agnes Igoye , Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Alumna from Uganda
  • Lea Shanley, Director of the Commons Lab, Science and Technology Innovation Program, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars

The U.S. Government’s Fulbright Program is supported by the people of the United States and partner countries around the world. Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 325,000 participants from over 180 countries with the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.

The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board was established by the United States Congress. Members of the Board are appointed by the President of the United States. The Board selects participants and sets policies for the Fulbright Program and publishes an Annual Report on the global impact of the program.
