Dr. Tomicah Tillemann, Senior Advisor to the Secretary for Civil Society and Emerging Democracies, will travel to Tallinn, Estonia and Wroclaw, Poland from June 2 through June 6, 2014.
In Tallinn, Dr. Tillemann will hold talks with Estonian officials on a broad range of strategic initiatives related to democracy support and civil society, including the United States and Estonia’s joint leadership of the LEND Network for Leaders Engaged in New Democracies and the Community of Democracies. He will also host consultations with civil society, visit Estonia’s e-Governance Academy, and hold talks at the Eastern Partnership Center of the Estonian School of Diplomacy.
Dr. Tillemann will then lead the U.S. delegation to the Wroclaw Global Forum. The 2014 Wroclaw Forum marks three major milestones: the 25th anniversary of the fall of Communism, the 15th anniversary of NATO enlargement in Central Europe, and the 10th anniversary of European Union enlargement in the region. Dr. Tillemann will speak at the Forum’s Democracy Dialogue on the Stand with Civil Society agenda and moderate a panel discussion with representatives from Google, the media, and democracy-support organizations about how technology is affecting the user interface between citizens and governments.
