The purpose of the Foreign Affairs Security Training Center (FASTC) is to establish a consolidated training center to conduct training for a wide array of law enforcement and security disciplines within the U.S. Department of State for the protection of diplomats and U.S. embassies abroad. Diplomatic security training is conducted at up to 19 different geographically separated leased and contracted facilities nationwide. A May 2008 report to Congress identified the need for a consolidated facility to improve training efficiency, decrease operating costs, and provide priority access to training venues which meet current facility standards. Currently, FASTC plans include these program functions:

  • Soft Skills Training – Classrooms, Administrative Offices, Simulation Labs
  • Hard Skills Training – Driving Tracks, Mock Urban Environment, Firing Ranges, Explosive Ranges and a Fitness Center
  • Life Support Facilities – Housing, Dining, Medical, Logistics, Recreation
  • Infrastructure – Power, Water, Waste, Telecom
  • Operation Facilities – Physical/ Cyber Security, Secure Communications
