Mr. Mark E. Walsh
Deputy Chief of Protocol

Mr. Mark Walsh was sworn in as Deputy Chief of Protocol of the United States on April 18, 2011. As Deputy Chief, Mr. Walsh serves as the Acting Chief of Protocol in the absence of the Chief.
In this role, Mr. Walsh oversees the visits of chiefs of state, heads of government and other international dignitaries who are visiting the United States to meet with the President, Vice President or Secretary of State.
Mr. Walsh brings experience in both the private and non-profit sectors to his position. Immediately prior to joining the Obama Administration, Mr. Walsh was the Vice President of Development for the AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts. Previously, he worked on the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Committee as a member of the Obama for America LGBT Steering Committee, the National Director for LGBT Outreach for “Hillary for President” and as Events Director for “Boston 2004,” the Host Committee for the 2004 Democratic Convention. Mr. Walsh is also a co-founder of Rafanelli Events, an event planning and design agency, and practiced law for several years.
Mr. Walsh, a native of Massachusetts, graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Economics. He received his law degree from Boston University School of Law.
