Safety at the Olympic Games

AP/WWP.The Operations Directorate (Ops) works closely with Department of State's Bureau for Diplomatic Security and chairs the Interagency Athletic Events Security Coordination Group to coordinate United States Government counterterrorism and security support for the Olympics and other major overseas international sporting events.

Ops assisted the governments of Australia, Greece and Italy in preparing for the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, and the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin.

Ops currently leads U.S. Government interagency and international efforts to prepare for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
