The Office of the Coordinator for Counterterrorism releases "Patterns of Global Terrorism" annually. This report is submitted in compliance with Title 22 of the United States Code, Section 2656f(a), which requires the Department of State to provide Congress a full and complete annual report on terrorism for those countries and groups meeting the criteria of Section (a)(1) and (2) of the Act. "Foreign Terrorist Organizations" is compiled every two years, and under the statute, is subject to judicial review. The Secretary of State makes designations following an exhaustive interagency effort. The designations expire in two years unless renewed.
The Bureau of Diplomatic Security, Office of Intelligence and Threat Analysis (DS/DSS/ITA), publishes the "Significant Incidents of Political Violence Against Americans" report which examines terrorism-related acts and other instances of violence affecting Americans.
