I am happy to be here in Abu Dhabi, and I'm very sorry that Secretary Clinton was unable to attend.
I want to express America's appreciation for the very important role that the United Arab Emirates is playing in hosting this Global Counterterrorism Forum. It's a reminder of the significance of the Emirates' leadership on a wide variety of issues of concern to the United States, as well as to our partners in the UAE. It's a reminder of the ways in which we cooperate not just in fighting violent extremism, but also in working on a range of issues important to regional security and stability as well as regional prosperity. One good example was the recent Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Dubai, which again underscores the important role that both the United Arab Emirates and United States play in trying to encourage greater innovation and greater opportunity for people across this region. We also work very closely together on important issues such as accelerating the transition to a new leadership in Syria, a leadership that the people of Syria desperately need and deeply deserve.
So, once again, this visit and this Global Counterterrorism Forum and Emirati leadership on all of those issues is a reminder of the importance of the partnership between the United States and the United Arab Emirates - a partnership to which we continue to attach great importance and on which we look to build even further in the months and years ahead.
