Armitage, Deputy Secretary of StateMr. Ed Storey, Chief Executive Officer for SOCO, and Mr. Davaasambuu, Director of the Petroleum Authority of Mongolia Government House Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia January 31, 2004 (Mr.Storey and Mr. Davaasambuu, sign contract. Clapping is heard.)
MR. DAVAASAMBUU: Now we would like to invite Mr. Richard Armitage, the Deputy Secretary of State, to make a speech. DEPUTY SECRETARY ARMITAGE: Mr. Prime Minister, ladies and gentlemen, I am extraordinarily happy to have witnessed this signing ceremony today because it symbolizes, for me, exactly the type of cooperation that we need between the United States and Mongolia - and that is a cooperative endeavor which brings in foreign direct investment.
Mr. Story and his colleagues have invested 85 million dollars in Mongolia. They're making a bet that this is going to be a very successful country, and that's the same bet the United States Government has made. We want to be part of that success. And today I think what we witnessed was yet another American company who has made a decision that Mongolia is a place to be, it's a place on the rise, and it's a place of the future.
So, speaking for my Government, we're delighted to congratulate the signatories today, and we look for even greater events in the future.
