Deputy Secretary Steinberg then traveled to Tokyo (May 31-June 2) for consultations with senior Japanese officials on a range of bilateral, regional, and international issues. Deputy Secretary Steinberg and members of his delegation arrived in Seoul, South Korea (June 2) and met with officials of the Republic of Korea Government. The purpose of the visit was to consult with South Korea on next steps in response to North Korea’s defiance of the international community.
