Impact(s): The ability of CSOs to conduct advocacy and watchdog efforts increases the level of transparency and accountability of host country government. Training and technical assistance are essential to improving the abilities and effectiveness of these organizations to influence government policy. By monitoring the number of organizations assisted, the USG can gauge the effectiveness of its efforts to improve CSO ability to affect the level of involvement of the public in decisions made by their governments.
Steps to Improve: Targets for FY 2010 and FY 2011 have been adjusted to reflect changes in civil society programming focus, the closure of some programs, and anticipated delays in receiving FY 2010 funding.
