| Impact(s): Antiretroviral (ARV) treatment provides direct therapeutic benefits for the individuals who receive treatment by: increasing the length and quality of their lives, enabling many individuals to resume normal daily activities and providing care for their families. ARVs reduce viral load in patients on therapy, and lower viral loads are associated with decreased rates of transmission. PEPFAR-supported treatment has helped to save and extend millions of lives as well as avoid the orphaning of hundreds of thousands of children whose parents are infected with HIV/AIDS. | |||||||
