The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
This year, the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues (S/GWI) commemorated IDEVAW by organizing a panel event moderated by Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues Melanne Verveer titled “The Consequences of Violence Against Women: Examining the Economic, Health, Legal and Social Costs.” The discussion will use IDEVAW as an opportunity to examine how economic, health, legal and social costs are significant outcomes of violence against women and girls, while also encouraging preventive practices.
