AbitibiBowater Inc., a U.S. corporation, on its own behalf as well as that of its affiliates Abitibi-Consolidated Company of Canada, Abitibi-Consolidated Inc., and AbitibiBowater Canada Inc., served Canada with a Notice of Intent to Submit a Claim to Arbitration against the Government of Canada under NAFTA Chapter 11 on April 23, 2009. AbitibiBowater Inc. complains about a legislation passed by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to expropriate AbitibiBowater Inc.’s main assets in the province.
