At USAID, we believe that if we deepen and expand diaspora outreach, we can develop stronger bonds with other nations—through civil societies, business leaders, inventors, and scientists. By engaging with America’s diasporas, we can more effectively meet our development goals and keep everybody safe.
To further advance our work with diaspora communities, USAID, the U.S. Department of State, and the International diaspora Engagement Alliance are hosting the 2013 Global Diaspora Forum, an annual celebration of America’s diaspora communities, on May 10th through the15th.
This year’s theme, “Where IdEAs Meet Action,” seeks to promote next generation diaspora engagement and action in diaspora volunteerism, philanthropy, and social innovation. We fundamentally believe that great ideas come from all different places.
I encourage you to visit www.diasporaalliance.org to watch live streaming videos from the Forum and read about diaspora communities’ contributions to their countries of origin and to America’s diplomatic relationships and development commitments worldwide. Thanks, and we’ll see you there.
