November 16, 2010

Kris M. Balderston has been announced as Special Representative for Global Partnerships by Secretary Clinton. Kris Balderston serves as the Special Representative for Global Partnerships at the Global Partnership Initiative within the Office of the Secretary, Room 6817.

Prior to his role at the U.S. Department of State, Kris was Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s first Legislative Director in January 2001 before serving as her Deputy Chief of Staff from 2002 to 2009 in New York. While in the capacity of Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Balderston accomplished numerous successful private-public partnerships under the direction of then Senator Clinton in concert with multiple stakeholders in the state of New York. His work at the Global Partnership Initiative will be a further continuation of public private partnership creation, but now at a global level in support of the Secretary’s strategic initiatives.

The Global Partnership Initiative’s work to date has included the successful Shanghai Expo USA Pavilion and significant investment capitalization of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves. Other areas of strategic focus in support of the Secretary’s initiatives include: leveraging diaspora communities, promoting social entrepreneurship through the channeling of social capital, and partnerships with private sector parties interested in promoting Clean Energy/Climate Change.
