The LEND Network is administered by a working group within the Community of Democracies chaired by the United States and Estonia. The working group seeks participation from transition leaders, governments, technology firms and other partners interested in supporting the initiative.
The LEND Network supports democratization efforts around the world by facilitating information exchanges between key actors in transition countries and leaders who have played a critical role in their own country’s former transition to democracy. Participants in the Network interact via a sophisticated, secure virtual platform, which is augmented by face-to-face meetings. This initiative harnesses the expertise of the Club de Madrid, the world’s largest forum of former democratic Presidents and Prime Ministers, and capitalizes on 21st century technologies that have been developed by Open Text, a leading Canadian software company.
Since its launch in 2012, the LEND Network has provided peer advice, peer support, and capacity building to political leaders, policy makers and civil society activists in Moldova and Tunisia. To date, key components of the LEND Network include:
