Special Representative for Global Intergovernmental Affairs Reta Jo Lewis traveled to Los Angeles, California, February 16-17, 2012, in support of Vice President Joseph Biden’s and Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping’s visit to Los Angeles, one of three stops on Vice President Xi’s visit to the United States last week. This visit was the second of the planned reciprocal visits between the Vice Presidents announced by President Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao during President Hu’s state visit to Washington, D.C. in 2011.
While in California, Special Representative Lewis participated in the meeting between Chinese Party Secretary for Jiangsu Province Luo Zhijun and California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr; Los Angeles Mayor Anthony Villaraigoso’s luncheon for U.S. and Chinese business leaders in honor of Vice President Xi; and the U.S. and Chinese Governor’s Roundtable with the two Vice Presidents, Governor Brown, Governors Neil Abercrombie (HI), Pat Quinn (IL), Peter Shumlin (VT), Brian Schweitzer (MT), and seven Chinese provincial officials.
