On behalf of the Government of the United States and the American people, I extend my warmest congratulations to the people of Colombia as you celebrate your one hundred and ninety-ninth anniversary of independence. I truly hope that the “Flight for Freedom” hot-air balloon show over Bogotá inspired pride among all Colombians for the remarkable courage and dedication they have shown in putting their country back on the path of stability and success.
The United States is a good friend and ally of Colombia. Our nations share a rich history rooted in democracy, the rule of law, and liberty. We express our profound respect for Colombia’s efforts to improve its security for its citizens. We especially appreciate Colombia’s commitment to advance democratic institutions and promote security among its neighbors in the region. On this day, we join all Colombians in their hope for a more secure, just, and prosperous nation.
