On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am pleased to wish Grand Duke Henri a happy birthday and to congratulate the people of Luxembourg as you celebrate your Independence Day on June 23. This is an opportunity to honor your rich history and the long friendship between our two nations.
We stand together as members of the United Nations and NATO, organizations that Luxembourg helped found and continues to strengthen in the cause of global peace and stability. From supporting the refocused mission in Afghanistan to spurring global economic recovery, the United States and Luxembourg work side by side to meet the challenges of the 21st century, and we will continue our strong partnership to advance peace, security, and prosperity around the world.
