On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Uzbekistan as you celebrate nineteen years of independence on September 1.
Over the past several years, we have worked together to strengthen the relationship between our countries, and today the United States is proud to cooperate with the people of Uzbekistan on many areas, from science and education to building civil society and improving trade. We look forward to expanding this work as we further deepen our bilateral relationship. An increasingly robust partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States will help promote stability, security, and prosperity throughout Central Asia.
I have fond memories of the beauty and the hospitality of Uzbekistan from my visit in the 1990s. On this celebratory occasion, I once again send my best wishes for peace, health, and happiness to all the people of Uzbekistan.
