On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I would like to congratulate the people of Solomon Islands on the thirty-third anniversary of your country’s independence this July 7.
The United States and Solomon Islands share a long history of friendship and cooperation, forged during World War II and continuing today. This anniversary is an opportunity for our two countries to renew our commitment to working together and improving regional stability, promoting democracy and human rights, responding to climate change, increasing trade, and promoting sustainable economic development.
Whether you celebrate this special day at Lawson Tama, or you honor this anniversary with family and friends on one of the nearly 1,000 islands, know that the United States stands with you. I wish all Solomon Islanders everywhere a peaceful and prosperous year to come.
