On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the Indonesian people on the 66th anniversary of your Independence this August 17.
Over the past decade, Indonesia has emerged as a thriving democracy and a regional and global leader. During my visit to Indonesia in July, I saw firsthand Indonesia's commitment to the economic potential of the region and to the future of your country. The United States is committed to helping you build on this potential to deliver results for both of our people.
Together, our two countries are working together promoting peace and prosperity around the world. Whether you celebrate in Jakarta or on one of your more than 17,000 islands, know that I send best wishes to all Indonesians for a safe and joyous celebration and continued peace and prosperity in the year to come.
