Collegiate Partnership Conference

Washington, DC
August 6, 2002

Secretary Powell and career counselors, August 6, 2002

The Collegiate Partnership Conference is an outreach effort of the State Department to universities around the country. Our objective is to make college and university career counselors better prepared to inform their students about the exciting career opportunities at the Department of State. They are our allies in helping to find the best talent in America to serve in the Civil Service and Foreign Service, and to be the "Face of America" to the world.

The conference was held August 5-6, 2002 at the Hyatt Hotel in Arlington, Virginia and at the State Department in Washington, DC. Fifty-six career counselors represented universities from across the country, from as far away as Hawaii.

Secretary Powell made brief remarks to the group on August 6 at the State Department thanking them for their interest and participation. He underscored the important role they play in influencing their students' career choices and the importance of public service.
