Secretary of State Colin L. Powell and Mrs. Alma Powell convey their sympathies and those of the American people to the families of victims of the Bali bomb blast through the condolence book at the Embassy of Australia in Washington, DC, on October 17, 2002.

Secretary and Mrs. Powell wrote:
"We have all of our close Australian friends in our hearts and minds in this moment of sadness. We extend our sympathy to the families of the victims.
--On behalf of the American people, Colin L. Powell, Secretary of State & Alma Powell"

Deputy Secretary Richard Armitage also signed the book and wrote:
"To the citizens of Australia and particularly the families who lost loved ones in Bali. Most sincere sympathy for your loss. All State Department employees join me in prayer for you all in this darkest moment.
