Statement on the Earthquake in Algeria

On behalf of the American people, I want to extend our deepest condolences to the Government of Algeria and the Algerian people following the tragic earthquake that has left hundreds dead and many thousands injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

We are in contact at the highest levels of the Algerian government to convey our sincerest sympathies and to offer whatever assistance we can in this time of grief and need. We will continue to work with the Algerian government to determine what emergency assistance may be needed.
