Press Stakeout After Meeting with Bulgarian Foreign Minister and The Organization for Cooperation and Security In Europe Chairman in Office Solomon Passy

Secretary Colin L. Powell
Germanys Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Berlin, Germany
April 28, 2004

QUESTION:  Mr. Powell, Bulgarian Television, just a second.  We want to ask about the case with the Bulgarian [medics] in Libya.  What do you expect from this case?

SECRETARY POWELL: Well, we have just had a chance to discuss this case.  The Foreign Minister and I discuss it every time we are together.  I hope that the change in attitude, generally, on the part of the Libyans in recent months will make it possible to see a resolution of this case next week when the verdict is handed down.  We are all anxious to see these medics released, and I hope we are getting close to that, but of course, I cannot predict what might happen.  But I think the circumstances have improved considerably in recent months.

QUESTION:  Thanks so much.

SECRETARY POWELL: Thank you.
