Secretary of State Colin L. Powell traveled to Japan, Vietnam, the Republic of Korea, the People's Republic of China, and Australia, July 22 – August 1.
Secretary Powell arrived in Tokyo July 23 for meetings with key officials and then traveled to Hanoi where attended the ASEAN Regional forum (ARF) and the ASEAN Post-Ministerial conference (PMC) July 24-26. While in Hanoi for these meetings, Secretary Powell also met bilaterally with a number of representatives from the region.
From Hanoi, the Secretary traveled to Seoul (July 27) and Beijing (July 28) for meetings with senior officials.
From Beijing, the Secretary traveled to Canberra where he and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld participated with their Australian counterparts in our annual Australia-U.S. Ministerial (AUSMIN) consultations on July 30. Secretary Powell departed Canberra on July 31.
