On behalf of President Barack Obama and the American people, it is my distinct privilege to congratulate the Welsh people as you commemorate St. David’s Day this March 1.
It is on special days like this that we recall the bonds that have joined our two people since the earliest days of our republic. The United States prides itself on the nearly two million citizens who are of Welsh descent, including a number of our founding fathers and several Presidents, and we continue to hold our relationship with Wales in great esteem.
As you celebrate St. David’s Day, know that the connection between Wales and the United States, one augmented by years of close economic, cultural and personal ties, will only grow stronger.
On this St. David’s Day, the American people send you their warmest wishes for a safe and festive holiday.
