On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I wish to congratulate the people of Slovenia as you celebrate your Statehood Day this June 25.
From the time Slovenia declared independence in 1991, your country has been a leader in promoting democracy and human rights and enhancing security around the globe. Together, we have worked to address some of the most pressing challenges of the last two decades. Your partnership with the United States in NATO’s Kosovo Force and assistance in demining operations has helped make the Balkans more peaceful and secure, and your engagement in Afghanistan alongside the Colorado National Guard is giving the people of Afghanistan a chance to create a better future.
We look forward to continuing our shared work in advancing European integration, economic reform and growth, and peace in the decades to come. As you celebrate this important day, know that the United States stands with you as a partner and a friend.
