Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice And Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet Before Their Meeting

Secretary Condoleezza Rice
Washington, DC
September 8, 2005

(2:05 p.m. EDT)

QUESTION: Madame Secretary, are you satisfied with the responses, (inaudible) to foreign aid offers for Hurricane Katrina?

SECRETARY RICE: I first just want to say that I think we've gotten a really wonderful response from around the world and we're working very hard with the affected areas to make sure that we're matching the offers we've had with what is needed on the ground.

We have used enormous numbers of what has been offered to us. I think you'll find that several flights have arrived at a hub that we have, which will allow us to distribute that aid. There are a number of logisticians here from around the world that are helping. The UN is embedded with us on their disaster relief teams.

So what I'd like to do is get you a full listing of the aid that is being used immediately, now, and I'm quite sure that we will make very good use of all that has been offered.

QUESTION: Thank you.
