Interview by Kyung Lah of CNN

SECRETARY RICE: I do. My mother had breast cancer and she first had it when I was 15 years old, but she survived. She was a survivor. She -- I was 30 when she succumbed to metastasis of the cancer. But (inaudible) wonderful that she saw not her 15-year-old daughter but her 30-year-old daughter, so she knew that I had grown up to teach at Stanford and become a specialist in international politics.

And I think that underscores that what we really are looking for here is, of course, a cure that makes it so that no one has to worry about this disease, but also better treatment options, prevention, ways to allow women to live with this disease if they must. And so I’m very, very fortunate myself in my story, but I think that these women here represent the very best of the human spirit.

QUESTION: If I could on another matter ask you about the findings on Friday out of Iraq that the Marines followed the rules of engagement. How important is it that these (inaudible) come forward?

SECRETARY RICE: Well, they will, I am quite certain, because all democracies handle these issues in the same way through ample investigation, due process (inaudible) the President said in his statement.

QUESTION: And the Iranian President, he yesterday had some very strong words for the United States.

SECRETARY RICE: Well, we'll see. We're going to step back and let Iran consider what is really a very good option that the international community has given them, and hopefully they'll take the good option. But the international community has other options (inaudible).

QUESTION: It was quite a week.

SECRETARY RICE: It was quite a week. It was long week. I was in Vienna and last night -- I just got back last night. But I'm really glad to be here and I'll try to help folks get started on the run.

QUESTION: And one other question. The Marines (inaudible) getting the refresher course on ethics and rules?

SECRETARY RICE: I don't have any further comment. I'm here to help out with the Komen Foundation and to help give these folks a boost because they certainly deserve it. They're wonderful survivors.

QUESTION: It must be nice to see all of them (inaudible).

SECRETARY RICE: It is. It's fantastic to see all these women.

QUESTION: Madame Secretary, thank you very much.

SECRETARY RICE: Thank you very much. We really appreciate your time.
