On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Malaysia on your 53rd National Day this August 31. Americans value the growing ties between our two nations. Our long history of cultural and educational exchanges have fostered a strong understanding between Malaysians and Americans, and our cooperation on economic and security matters contributes to stability and prosperity throughout Southeast Asia and beyond. We look forward to continuing and expanding our partnership with Malaysia and strengthening our ties in the region. On this occasion, I wish all Malaysians a happy Merdeka Day and a peaceful, joyous year to come.
